Judging is carried out by two teams of judges in a two stage process. |
| |
 |
| |
Stage 1 Ranking
- The first stage is to rank entries in their category.
- Each team assesses each entry objectively, using the motivations supplied, and scores points according to the judging criteria, for technical, design and consumer features, marketing benefits and environmental advantages.
- After each entry has been scored and consensus reached, scores are tallied, and an average is posted as the final score for that entry.
- The panel chairmen are the adjudicators, and control the process to ensure fairness and impartiality.

|
Stage 2 Award Assessment
-
Once all the entries have been ranked, the debate on the presentation of awards is made.
-
At this stage the judges reserve the right to withhold any award in a category if the standard of the entries do not satisfy the criteria for an award to be made.
-
Once the gold medals have been awarded, the judges identify the entries that are exceptional in each category. These are awarded “Best in Category” Gold Medals, as they stand out against their peers, and score the highest in the judging process.
-
Entries that are not necessisarily category Gold Medals, but that deserve recognition for some special feature or attribute, will be awarded a “Judge’s Gold Medal” award.
-
Finally the judges identify the entry, which in their opinion has shown itself to be the best pack entered in the competition, and this entry is declared the overall winner and awarded the IPSA GOLD PACK TROPHY.
