Today we stand in the midst of a communications revolution where all aspects of our lives are affected, and the predictions of science fiction writers have come to pass.

Packaging is part of this revolution.

With more products and choices available, the role of packaging as a communicator has become vital.

In this environment, packaging not only fulfils its primary role of protecting its contents but is a major element and genuine communications medium in the marketing mix.

Over the years, the Institute of Packaging (SA) has promoted excellence in packaging through its identification, recognition and rewarding of creativity, innovation and technology in the South African packaging industry through the Gold Pack Awards. .

This has become the true test within the industry as it celebrates an industry that has proved itself to be among the best in the world.

The “Red Bird of Paradise” of Bantana Island, Papua Indonesia, is an inspiration from nature that encapsulates the meaning of the term “COMMUNICATE”

When searching for a mate, the male uses vocal, colour and animated displays to communicate his credentials to all interested females, in a most eccentric spectacle.
