the do's and don'ts
 

Experience shows that, in general, entrants take their submissions very seriously. However, after each Gold Pack event, the judges comment on some of the lost opportunities - where potentially award-winning packs have been let down by poor motivations or the submission of substandard samples. Here are some DO’S and DON’TS to guide entrants.

DO start early
Don’t rush things – don’t start writing a motivation the day before entries close!

DO read entry forms carefully
Members of the Gold Pack Awards committee are always available to answer queries and help entrants

DO a double check
Double check your motivation to ensure that all features and benefits are included

DO write a good motivation
Make sure that your team presents all relevant information – market place successes, production cost savings, distribution advantages, environmental benefits, etc. Check and substantiate claims made in your entry, and provide supporting documentation when relevant

DO supply all information
Incomplete information frustrates the judges; they are not mind readers! Ensure the inclusion of basic information such as technical innovation, previous packaging style, reason for a packaging change, new pack benefits, etc

DO select samples carefully
Make sure that you submit pristine samples. If necessary, ask the packer to specially fill a sample pack

DO keep things simple
Motivations that use jargon and clichés to try to impress the judges don’t work – in fact have the opposite effect

DO ensure compliance with regulations
Make sure your sample pack includes statutory data, such as mass statement, ingredients, nutritional information, address details, barcode, etc

DO supply professional photographs
It is vital to supply high-quality, professional photographs of the entry itself, as well as additional photographs of any special feature – for instance a clever opening/closing device, the difference between an empty and filled pack, etc

DO ensure safe delivery of your entry
Ensure that your sample pack is packed securely for safe transit, and that it is accompanied by the entry form and photographs.

 
DON’T rush things
Don’t leave your entry to the last minute. A rushed motivation does not do justice to your pack or your company

DON’T send poor photographs
Cell phone cameras do not do justice to your entry. Use a professional photographer – it makes all the difference

DON’T send an incomplete motivation
Incomplete motivations are impossible to judge

DON’T send untidy or damaged packs
Ensure packs submitted are pristine. Check that labels are straight, that there’s no scuffing, that seals are not burnt through, that registration is precise, etc.

 

Clownfish live in a symiotic relationship with the sea anemone. Here the fish is immune to the sting of the anemone, keeps it clean of parasites and attracts small fish to the site through its bright colouration. The relationship succeeds through a cooperation that creates a benefitial link between the two animals.

Packaging is equally used to promote and develop brands through the design projecting the desired image.
